Hearts to Los Hogares

Last month, 21 travelers (11 youth & 10 adults) from Glencoe Union Church spent 8 days at Los Hogares Orphanage in Guatemala. We played with and loved the 87 orphan children aging from 3 months to 17 years old. The last night before we left the kids, we all participated in a “Fiesta” where the children prepared special cultural dances for us guests as their gift to us for a special week spent together. At the end of the Fiesta, our group shared individual hearts with each child and tia (aunt caregivers). Our pewter heart was in a drawstring bag with a card stating in both Spanish and English “YOU ARE SPECIAL AND LOVED”. The hearts brought joy to all who received. It brought joy back to our Glencoe group “Friends for Others” who prepared the bags for the orphan kids…90 hearts have found their home amongst 90 people in Santa Apalona, Guatemala. Simple joy.
